Back in 2013, I was thrilled to share a custom 7-inch Munny under the headline "
The Most Stunning Thing You'll See Today", which might seem a bit hyperbolic but was actually — in my estimation — completely accurate. The artist behind that piece was
Kevin "Klav" Derken, a New Haven, CT resident with a passion for
Maschinen Krieger ZbV 3000 (Ma.K) model kits that had rebuilt the monkey-like vinyl toy into the likeness of a Super Armored Fighting Suit, or S.A.F.S. Since then, Derken has mainly focused on continuing to evolve his modelmaking skills, especially kitbashing Ma.K parts into unique builds, typically featuring his own 3D printed skull heads. But now he's revising more traditional designer toy forms, having chopped apart and rebuilt a 7-inch tall Munny and an 8-inch tall Dunny in the likeness of his own skull-topped mechs! Breathtakingly beautiful, these are simply known as "Skunny"
pieces and are pictured in unfinished forms, the simple gray primer covered bodies awaiting the painted detailing that will shortly follow. We can't wait to see the finished results, and we strongly suggest you
follow Klav on Instagram to see the progress of these fantastic one-of-a-kind custom works.
