Ever since the
very first time we meantioned that
Marvel Comics had entered an agreement with
threeA, letting the latter release official 1/6th scale figures that have been redesigned "with an extra added twist" by
Ashley Wood, speculation was high on which characters would get the treatment. And while it was fun to see iconic male superheroes and villains get reinterpreted — namely Iron Man, Dr. Doom, Spider-Man, and Ultron — it was
the announcement of three female figures in the line that we were most anxious for: Black Widow, Madam Hydra, and Spider Woman!
As this pictures might've indicated to you, "Black Widow" is indeed the fifth character in the ongoing Marvel × 3A line. While I was expecting Ashley Wood's signature spin on Marvel's most deadly femme fatale to look a bit more in that unmistakable style his 1/6th figure designs have, this actually comes across to me as a strangely wonderful mixture between Wood's aesthetic and Bruce Timm's illustrations — something that isn't afraid to look a bit cartoonish, but does so with such style and maturity that it transcends.
This 13-inch tall super spy figure has 24 points of articulation, so she can gracefully slink through any problem area, and — should she draw attention — she is armed with her iconic wrist stingers and twin holstered glocks 17s. Of course, what is Black Widow without her expertly tailored catsuit? This one has been laser cut out to snuggly fit Wood's elegantly designed body sculpt, a faux leather trench coat rounding things off. Adding a new spin element, Wood also includes a newly masked look for her to use on the most covert of missions, just in case complete deniability is needed!
Available on August 31st, 2016, the $160 Black Widow figure can be purchased directly from
Bambaland.com or from
any ThreeA retailer worldwide.
