Andrew Bell & Kelly Denato's "The Great Escape" at Stranger Factory.
When one hears "The Great Escape," it wouldn't be uncommon for your mind to picture Steve McQueen on a motorcycle. But, in a more melancholy fashion, the term could be viewed as a reference to death. And that latter answer applies more appropriately to the works of Andrew Bell and Kelly Denato, who will be having a two-person art show at Stranger Factory in April.
Both Brooklyn-based artists are known for the sadness in their work, Bell's portrayed in a cartoonishly ironic manner while Denato explores a fantastically rich world of her own design. While the two share little in style, it is there thematic bond that will make this show gel appropriately. We're promised new illustrations, paintings and sculptures from each… and — as an additional tease — here's a work-in-progress picture of one of Denato's sculpts:
Andrew Bell & Kelly Denato's "The Great Escape" opens on April 6th and runs through April 30th at Stranger Factory, 109 Carlisle Blvd. NE, Albuquerque, NM 87106, strangerfactory.com.
