"Borracho de los Muertos" bootlegged resin figure by SpankyStokes for Dragatomi's "Not Vinyl" show
So when asked to be apart of the "Not Vinyl" show at Dragatomi this Saturday may 8th 2010, I was super pumped because I had wanted to try my hand at casting some resin for quite some time, and what better time than the present right? Well, I had a ton of work ahead of me and was totally down, and a huge thanks goes out to "Authorized" bootlegger Dodgrr for helping me make this a reality. "Borracho de los Muertos" roughly translated means Drunk of the Dead. I had the idea to use this figure that I had bought down in Mexico many years ago, and I loved the grittiness of this figure and wanted that to carry over to the updated version so what I ended up doing is casting that OG figure in resin, then building off the cast. Hit the jump to see some of my process along with some pictures...
The OG figure was very simple, a drunk man holding a bottle, so I wanted to "jazz" him up a bit and turn him into a dead or "Muerte" skeleton figure, almost zombie'ish, so I ended up sculpting in a new face, removed the hands and feet, and added thin bony fingers and toes, ripped open the right arm and added a bone in there and also opened up his belly and added some guts coming out... a must for anything undead, not to mention added more girth to the bottle along with etched in xXx, because it's thick like poison!
Now based on the OG figure that I bought in Mexico and seeing as this was a solid polystone figure, it would have been very thought to work with and that is where my man Dodgrr came in with his skill, we did a few rotocast resin figures which allowed me to really work on this with ease, and then after I got the sculpt to how I wanted it, went back to Dodgrr with the final and did another rotocast version... the one that is going to be at Dragatomi is a one off, the mold is no longer, and to make more we need to make another mold... which will happen in the near future.
This was a blast to do, and look for more released of this figure in the near future with more detail, and some surprises added to make this more unique. Also if you have a chance, head out to Dragatomi this weekend May 8th 2010 to see this piece in person as well as a ton of other great "Not Vinyl" pieces!
